The march for cryptocurrency acceptance continues. The first airport Bitcoin ATM in Europe has now been installed at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.

If cryptocurrency is going to thrive, then it needs to be convenient. One way for any currency to become so is to have easy access to it via an ATM. Fortunately for travelers going through the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, they can now use the first Bitcoin ATM installed at an airport within the EU.
The Bitcoin ATM allows one to exchange euros for either Bitcoin or Ethereum. The machine’s installation is part of a six-month trial program between the airport and ByeleX Data Solutions BV, The Byecoin Company. The ATM is located in arrival hall 2 at the entrance to departure halls 1 and 2, which is a prime location as many departing travelers pass by that particular point.
The director of Consumer Products & Services at Schiphol, Tanja Dik, says:
Schiphol is continuously working on innovations and offering optimum service for passengers. With the Bitcoin machine we hope to serve travelers because they can easily exchange ‘local’ euros for the ‘global’ Bitcoin or Ethereum . This can be useful, because they can no longer make use of Euros in their home country.
Number of Bitcoin ATMs Increasing
The new Bitcoin ATM in the Dutch airport is just the latest in the growing number of crypto ATMs worldwide. Coin AMT Radar reports that there are currently 3,304 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide at the moment, a marked increase from the 952 in existence at the end of 2016.
Overall, 6 Bitcoin ATMs are installed every day. The vast majority of the machines (74.41 percent) are located in North America, with Europe trailing behind at 21.43 percent and Asia with a meager 1.94 percent. The top five countries for the number of Bitcoin ATMs include the United States (1,936), Canada (490), Austria (196), the UK (153), and the Russian Federation (53).
