Kraken, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the United States, has taken a major step forward in its global growth. On June 26, the company announced that it has received a MiCA license from the Central Bank of Ireland. This license enables Kraken to provide well-regulated crypto services in the entire 30 member states of the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). This is a significant milestone for Kraken as it continues to expand its operations in Europe.

Kraken Builds Trust with New MiCA Approval

Other significant licenses were already obtained by Kraken in the past. In 2023, it obtained an e-money institution (EMI) license and in February 2025, an MiFID (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive) authorization. At this point, Kraken is enticing more secure and regulated services in the EU with the help of MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) license. This assists the firm to have a better relation with clients within the regions.

Arjun Sethi, co-CEO of Kraken, points out that obtaining the MiCA license is not only about compliance. It demonstrates that Kraken intends to act responsibly when it comes to crypto innovations. He explained that this license it received is the first of its kind since most crypto platforms have not required such a license yet, and it is just another proof of its commitment to be there in the long-term. He also emphasized that trust is the greatest thing in crypto, and it is something that should be gained with time. The team at Kraken has been striving to comply with high standards of regulations over the last few years. The result of their success is this new license.

Besides, Kraken thanked the Central Bank of Ireland on behalf of its professional treatment and the Irish Government for their continuous help. It was also the experience expressed by the company that even IDA Ireland (a country investment promotion organization) was grateful. They have jointly formed a sort of partnership between the public and the private sectors. The exchange believes that this collaboration could result in a safer and more progressive financial future with Europe.

Kraken Embraces MiCA for Safer, Transparent Crypto in Europe

Kraken already has Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registrations in several important EU countries. They include France, Belgium, Poland, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Italy. Kraken has also been on the forefront when it comes to crypto trading in Euros. It became the first exchange to launch BTC/EUR trading pair in 2013. Its platform is being trusted and has the highest liquidity of euro-based crypto trade today.

At this point, Kraken can offer even more regulated services with the help of the MiCA license. This comprises spot trading, derivatives, and payment services. The company will cater to both institutional and retail customers and offer its services to millions of Europeans in an open and clear-cut way to make crypto products available.

Finally, the MiCA framework itself is a progressive step for cryptocurrency users. It introduces a golden standard of rules and means of customer protection in the EU. It implies that the users of Kraken will be able to use the services of Kraken safely, more transparently, and with increased confidence. Overall, the new license means further consolidation of Kraken in Europe and the next phase in the future of this company to expand responsibly in the international crypto market.
