Crypto payments startup Ripple has announced that it is joining Madonna to raise funds for orphans and vulnerable children in Africa’s Malawi.

The Queen of Pop Turns to Ripple

Taking to social media on Monday, the American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman announced the fundraiser in honor of her 60th birthday later this month.

The month-long campaign, which runs from July 30th to August 31st, will be raising funds for Madonna’s non-profit Raising Malawi fund. She founded the fund in 2006 to address the poverty and hardship endured by the children of Africa’s landlocked country. Madonna said:

Every dollar raised will go directly to meals, schools, uniforms and healthcare. Through their generous commitment to this organization, Ripple will match each dollar donated to this campaign.

Madonna added that the fundraiser will benefit from Facebook’s charitable giving tools. This means that there will be no processing fees charged, which means that 100 percent of the funds raised will go to those in need.

At the time of writing, the Queen of Pop’s page has risen nearly $35,000 of the $60,000 goal. So far, this has been raised by over 600 people in three days. Eric van Miltenburg, SVP of business operations at Ripple, said:

We’re honored to be a part of Raising Malawi’s amazing work with some of the world’s most underserved children and are grateful to our investors at Sound Ventures for making the introduction to us and this important cause.

Donating to Worthwhile Causes

Notably, this isn’t the first time that the payments company has given money to charity.

In May, actor and tech investor Ashton Kutcher made a surprise donation to Ellen DeGeneres’ The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund. On behalf of Ripple, $4 million in XRP was donated to it.

Back in March, the firm donated $29 million of XRP to fund public schools. Fulfilling requests from teachers on DonorsChoose.org, the money will go towards classroom supplies for the more than 28,000 public school teachers across all 50 states.

The team at Ripple obviously care about giving back. And what better way to do that than in cryptocurrency. Removing barriers and fostering financial inclusion are key to creating a better world. Not only that, but crypto assets should be available to everyone.

This recent donation from the payments company highlights their commitment to investing in causes they believe in.
