CZ: AI Agents Will Make 1M× More Payments Than Humans Using Crypto

-

CZ predicts AI agents will make 1 million times more payments than humans, with crypto as the go-to rail for autonomous transactions.

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, has made a bold prediction about the future of payments.

He stated on X that AI agents will make one million times more payments than humans.

According to CZ, these agents will use crypto to do it. His post has since sparked wide discussion across the crypto and tech communities. It aligns with a broader argument that existing payment systems are simply not built for machine-to-machine transactions.

Why Traditional Payment Systems Fail AI Agents

Milk Road, a largely followed X account, broke down the technical case behind CZ’s prediction.

The outlet pointed out that AI agents face a real payment problem. They cannot hold credit cards, use bank transfers, or wait for human approval to move money. Those are core requirements of the traditional financial system.

On top of that, agents cannot hold large reserves of gas tokens just to pay fees on every small transaction. Every friction point slows down operations that are built to run at scale.

As Milk Road noted, traditional payment rails always require a human somewhere in the loop. AI agents do not have one.

This gap is not just a minor inconvenience.

At the scale CZ is describing, millions of agents transacting simultaneously, it becomes a structural breakdown. The infrastructure has to match the speed, volume, and autonomy of the systems using it.

BNB Chain’s EIP-3009 Upgrade and the $U Stablecoin

BNB Chain has taken a concrete step to address this challenge.

The blockchain recently upgraded its native stablecoin, $U, to support EIP-3009, a standard known as “transfer with authorization.” The $U stablecoin hit a supply of one billion dollars in March 2026, marking a key milestone for the BNB ecosystem.

EIP-3009 allows an AI agent to approve a payment off-chain using a cryptographic signature, then execute it on-chain.

No native gas tokens are required to complete the transaction. As Milk Road described it: authorize, then execute. The process is clean, fast, and needs no human sign-off.

This kind of upgrade matters more than it appears on the surface. It removes the custody burden of holding gas tokens for micro-payments.

For an agent running thousands of small transactions per day, that reduction in overhead is significant. BNB Chain positions this as practical infrastructure for an agent-driven economy.

Crypto as the Native Currency for Autonomous Systems

CZ has been consistent on this view. Since Davos, he has referred to crypto as the native currency for autonomous systems.

The argument is straightforward: crypto is borderless, programmable, and does not require human intermediaries. Those qualities are exactly what AI agents need to operate at scale.

Milk Road echoed this in their breakdown of the BNB Chain upgrade. They framed the EIP-3009 integration not as a feature release, but as an infrastructure decision.

Without tools like this, an agent economy would break under its own friction. With them, it has a real foundation to build on.
