In a case of tax evasion and fraud, as well as crypto money laundering, STF Minister Gilmar Mendes agrees on a R$200,000 bond, still pending payment by the woman.
Brazil Supreme Court Minister Gilmar Mendes made a revolutionary ruling. He issued bail to a woman accused of having committed serious financial crimes to the tune of R$200,000.
The charges in the case are tax evasion, fraud, criminal organization, and illegal gambling.
Since April 2025, the woman has been in detention. Mendes decided she may stay free as long as she satisfies tough court terms. The move is a turning point in current research regarding cryptocurrencies.
Shocking Ties to Cryptocurrency Crime Revealed
Reportedly, the suspect was first associated with leading a criminal gang that laundered money using Cryptocurrencies. The police confiscated electronic property and other assets in her Curvelo house in Minas Gerais.
The woman occupied a superior role, as deputy manager of the illegal activities, according to the court documents.
She supposedly liaised with her cousin, who was the gang leader. They used them to transfer illegal income into legitimate resources through big crypto exchanges.
Mendes tried to emphasize the gravity of these crimes. However, he compensated for this with the fact that she was able to pay the large bail and obey the court requirements. The bail is, in effect, taking the place of her pretrial detention.
Gilmar Mendes Demands Tough Conditions for Release
The minister introduced some precautionary measures other than bail. The suspect has to report to the court on a regular basis and is not allowed to move out of the district without permission. She is also not allowed to call up co-investigators to avoid interference.
Mendes emphasized that people are still very worried about their safety. Nevertheless, the economic indicators and the brutality of the offense support the release of bail over incarceration.
The amount was decided by the fact that the suspect was in good financial condition, according to the official sources.
This decision sheds light on the developing battle against tax evasion and cryptocurrency crimes in Brazil.
The case brings light to the issue of the judiciary balancing between order and individual rights in society.
