Ripple Pledges Extra $5M for Asia-Pacific Blockchain Research

-

  • Ripple pledges $5M to boost blockchain research in Asia-Pacific.
  • UBRI expands with new partnerships in Taiwan and Australia.
  • The National University of Singapore develops Asia’s first DAO.

Ripple Labs has announced an investment of $5 million for blockchain research and education throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The money, distributed through UBRI, is directed at innovation and future blockchain talent. It adds to partnerships in Taiwan and Australia, and renews partnerships in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.

Expanding Blockchain Innovation in Asia-Pacific

Ripple’s $5 million pledge adds to the company’s investment in academic research across Asia with the pledge totalling $5 million. The new partnerships include real-world asset tokenization on the XRP Ledger with Taiwan’s National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. The government will give grants to universities in Australia to help them progress blockchain applications.

Additionally, Ripple reaffirmed its support for universities like as the National University of Singapore, which had previously been able to build Asia’s first university-based decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) thanks to financing from the United Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). South Korea’s Korea University was awarded $1.1 million to further its research on blockchain technology, while cooperation between Japan and Singapore is continuing to push for advancements in the field of financial technology.

According to Ripple’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Eric van Miltenburg, ‘Asia-Pacific is a global leader in fintech innovation. “We invest in academic talent that will bring in the future of blockchain technology.” Speaking about this, Ripple posted on X and bragged about seven years of fostering blockchain breakthroughs through UBRI.

Driving Global Collaboration and Talent Development

This comes in line with Ripple’s plans to host its seventh annual UBRI Connect in Singapore during the XRP Ledger Apex event. As a global conference, it will gather all blockchain researchers to share knowledge and work on the latest blockchain projects. UBRI has also become a cornerstone of Ripple’s strategy to spread the blockchain gospel, as UBRI now boasts 60 university partners around the globe.

A UBRI grant is underwriting work to develop an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP Ledger at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University. The aim of this project is to make an AI platform that is transparent and collaborative, based on blockchain technology. “The AI applies this innovation as a new way to affect the decentralized systems,” said a university researcher who was involved in the project.

The funding comes as Ripple has a long-term vision of making the Asia Pacific Blockchain innovation hub. Ripple aims to fill this gap by supporting academic research in theoretical advancements that can be implemented in the real world, such as cross-border payments and tokenized assets.
