FBI warns about fake token scam on Tron network, where attackers send tokens claiming an investigation and steal personal data through phishing websites.
The FBI warned crypto users about a new scam using fake tokens. Attackers send tokens that look like official messages. The scam is directed to wallets that are on the Tron blockchain network. Officials said users should not trust tokens purporting to be from the FBI.
Fake FBI Tokens Sent to Wallets on Tron Network
The warning was received from the FBI’s New York office. Scammers are sending TRC-20 tokens directly to crypto wallets. These tokens bear the name of the FBI as well as the official seal. Because of this, many users think that the message is real.

When users open the token details, they receive a warning message. The message claims that the wallet is under investigation. It states that the user violated the rules on Anti-Money Laundering. The message then asks the user to complete verification.
Scammers use powerful and urgent language in the message. And they say all assets may be blocked in the near future. Due to this pressure, some users act fast without checking facts. This is how the attackers fool the victim.
The token message also includes a link to a website. The site looks like an official one, but is a fake one. It requests personal information, wallet information, and identity documents. After the user enters information, scammers can steal money.
Security reports say at least 728 wallets received the fake token. Some targeted wallets contain over 1 million USDT. This indicates that attackers might search for accounts that have large balances.
Experts say that these scams are inexpensive to operate. A phishing kit can be as cheap as $20 to $50. However, the criminals are able to disburse tokens to thousands of users simultaneously. Because of this, the attack can spread very fast.
FBI Says It Never Sends Tokens or Wallet Messages
The FBI clearly said that it never contacts people with the help of blockchain tokens. The agency also has no means of asking for identity checks via wallet messages. Any token that purports to be from the FBI should be ignored.
Officials told users not to open links from unknown tokens. They also said users must not provide personal information on the internet. If someone has already entered data, he/she should report it in a hurry. Reports may be made at the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
In addition, the scam was made more believable thanks to a bygone FBI operation. In 2024, the agency had used an actual token in a secret investigation. The project was dubbed, Operation Token Mirrors. It helped to catch market manipulators.
Now this history is being used by scammers to make fake tokens appear real. They hope the users remember the old case and have trust in the message. Because of this trick, the novel scam appears more convincing.
On the other hand, crypto users are also advised to remain careful at all times. Tokens can be transferred to any wallet without permission. This means anyone can have fake messages. Checking of links and ignoring of unknown tokens can save from losses.
The FBI said awareness is the best protection. Users should always verify the information from official sources. As scams become increasingly advanced, careful action can keep wallets safe.
