Stolen Satoshi Nakamoto Statue Recovered from Lake Lugano

The missing statue of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto has been found. Workers from the city of Lugano, Switzerland, recovered it from Lake Lugano. It was stolen on August 2, one day after the celebrations of the Swiss National Day. The police confirmed that unknown individuals had stolen the statue by forcefully removing it from its base in Parco Ciani. As a result, the authorities launched an investigation into the well-known lakeside park to identify those responsible.

‘Disappearing Satoshi’ Statue Found in Pieces After Theft in Lugano

The recovery was confirmed by the art collective Satoshigallery, which created the statue. As the group stated, the statue was discovered in a few pieces in pieces. Some were submerged in water, and others were on the edge of the lake.

It was a statue, which was named Disappearing Satoshi and dedicated to the anonymity of the person who created Bitcoin. The developers announced it in October 2024 at the third Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano. The occasion was based on blockchain and cryptocurrency innovation. Consequently, the statue was fast becoming a tourist attraction as many visitors posed with the statue. It was also popular among locals; it was a sign of the interest of Lugano in digital finance.

Shortly after the statue was stolen, Satoshigallery posted an offer of 0.1 Bitcoin as a reward in case of some helpful information. The prize was valued at about 12,000. The collective encouraged people to support the restoration of the statue. They said the project was designed in 18 months. In addition to this period, three months were spent on building. They also vowed to go on with their mission despite the theft.
