Bitcoin Mining Company Kryptovault Receives Bomb Threats

A Bitcoin mining company in Norway has received bomb threats after conflicts with local residents.

While some towns and cities are quite welcoming of Bitcoin mining operations setting up shop, it appears that others are not. Kryptovault, a cryptocurrency mining company in Norway, has been the recipient of a bomb threat. Needless to say, the company is taking such a threat seriously.

Someone Not a Fan of Bitcoin Mining

Kryptovault operates mining facilities in three locations: Follum, Honefuss, and Dale. The company has had some issues with local residents at Dale and Honefuss. It appears that the noise associated with cryptocurrency mining is what lies behind the conflict.

Recently, Kryptovault received a bomb threat that read:

This is sabotage. If you are expanding crypto mining and filling the country with noise, then you will be sabotaging the peace. I am threatening to send you some explosives.

The managing director of Kryptovault, Gjermund Hagesaeter, notified the police about the matter. He also spoke to a local newspaper, saying:

The threat has been reported to the police and these are also taking the whole issue very seriously indeed. We have also asked the police to assess whether any further action needs to be taken. The facility at Follum is located in a fenced area, so it would be difficult for any intruder to gain access but the one at Dale is far more accessible so we have warned everyone to be on their toes.

Keeping an Eye Out

Gjermund Hagesaeter said that the company is asking employees at the Dale location to be extremely observant. If any abnormal activities are noticed, the employees are to evacuate immediately.

Law enforcement is taking the bomb threat seriously and is looking into it. As of now, no suspects have been identified.

While there have been instances where local governments have not been happy about the energy usage of Bitcoin mining operations, this is the first one where a dispute has led to a bomb threat. One can only hope that this is just an empty threat and that nobody gets hurt.

Would you take such a bomb threat seriously? How should Kryptovault respond? Let us know in the comments below.
