Litecoin and the Miami Dolphins Join Hands Over Charity

-

Who would have known American football and cryptocurrency would go so well together? In a press release, The Miami Dolphins football team has announced that the official currency representing them will be Litecoin. In other words, customers can now utilize Litecoin tokens to purchase official items and merchandise associated with one of the most recognized teams in the history of the sport.

Litecoin and Football: A Perfect Match?

The team and the Litecoin Foundation have entered an official partnership that will allow people attending games to utilize both Litecoin and bitcoin when purchasing tickets for what’s known as the team’s 50/50 raffle. For the event, half the proceeds raked in by the football organization will go towards charities and other “noble” causes. Users can purchase the tickets both online and at kiosks or raffle ticket locations throughout the Hard Rock Stadium, which is where the Miami Dolphins play.

Litecoin founder Charlie Lee expressed his enthusiasm regarding the partnership, explaining:

We’re thrilled to see Litecoin become the official cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins. This collaboration propels Litecoin in front of an audience of millions of people around the world at a time where adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum and the ecosystem can support real world use cases in ways previously thought not possible. We see this as a powerful way to raise awareness and educate people about Litecoin and cryptocurrencies on a tremendous scale.

At press time, Litecoin is the sixth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap and is used by more than 10,000 businesses and enterprises around the world. Miami Dolphins vice president and chief information officer Kim Rometo also provided a few positive thoughts when discussing the team’s relationship with the cryptocurrency, stating:

The Miami Dolphins are always looking for ways to enhance the fan experience, and this partnership with Litecoin provides the ability for guests to enjoy our 50/50 raffle while donating to a great cause.

 This Has Been Done Before…

This isn’t the first time that sports and cryptocurrency have first entered the arena together. One of the most recent cases involves Kobe Bryant, the famed basketball player of the Los Angeles Lakers, being hired as the guest speaker at last year’s niTROn Summit in San Francisco. TRON founder Justin Sun commented:

I have been a huge fan of Kobe and deeply inspired by his journey. It’s my great honor to have Kobe as our special guest for the niTROn Summit. It’s worth mentioning that Kobe Bryant is not only a basketball genius, but also an investment genius. We look forward to hearing his great speeches at the summit.

In addition, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA’s) Cleveland Cavaliers has entered into a partnership with United Coin. The currency will benefit from promotion on the team’s social media channels while serving as an official sponsor.
