In a first, a blockchain company has demonstrated proof of a working phone call on a blockchain based network.
World’s First Blockchain Based Phone Call
Pundi X, a blockchain firm has successfully demonstrated a test phone call using blockchain technology and the company’s proprietary XPhone device. The company’s primary focus is on building POS devices that enable stores to buy and sell cryptocurrencies in additional to accepting payments in cryptocurrencies.
The public demonstration was made on the second day of the XBlockchain Summit at the Inaya Putri, Bali earlier on Wednesday. It was also announced through a blog post on the company’s official Medium Channel.
The post addressing the Pundi community says:

To this end we never stop looking for ways to find and create new applications for blockchain. It’s this spirit that has driven us to create the world’s first working blockchain-powered point of sales device.
And today it’s this that has led us to bring blockchain to the world of telephony, data transmission, and storage; a world far beyond financial transactions and transfers.
Technology Behind XPhone
According to the blog post, unlike traditional phones that require a centralized mobile carrier, XPhone works without the need for one. The handset uses the Function X blockchain developed by the company.
Function X, as the blog claims, is not just a public blockchain but includes five components – Function X OS, Function X Blockchain, Function X IPFS, FXTP Protocol, and the Function X Docker. The intent behind the eco-system is to decentralize apps, websites, communications, and data.
The blog further explains:
The Function X OS is based off the Android OS 9.0, so there is a backward compatibility with the Android apps. For developers and users transitioning to the Function X platform, it would be relatively easy as the knowledge and experience from developing and using Android will be transferable.
We also believe it will be easier than ever to create and publish new decentralized applications using the protocol.
Each device acts like a node on the blockchain with its own address and private key, uniquely linked to their node names. However, the instrument does not use the internet’s HTTP protocol but instead uses its own blockchain based eco-system to handle requests. Nodes can communicate with each other through calls, messages or emails. Nodes can also view each other’s public data through the FXTP protocol.
Public Launch Details
Sharing further details the post says:
The XPhone OS is currently available to phone manufacturers for testing. The detailed information of Function X will be available on functionx.io on October 15th. The Function X blockchain, FXTP, IPFS, and XPhone will be officially launched in Q2 2019.
The company is already shipping its first batch of 5000 XPOS devices to multiple countries including UK, Switzerland, Brazil, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, and Hong Kong while its other products XPOS Handy and XPOS Desk are under development.
Pundi X as a company has demonstrated good progress towards adoption by bringing products to the market that have a real-world use. If the firm delivers on the committed milestones, it could well be on its way to becoming a technology giant of the decentralized economy.
