Ronin Links Up With Chainlink to Secure Cross-Chain Bridge

-

Ronin will integrate Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol to secure cross-chain asset transfers.

Gaming blockchain network Ronin has partnered with Chainlink to integrate the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) for secure bridging and interoperability. The integration came after the Ronin community voted for it instead of other solutions like LayerZero and Axelar. For starters, the new bridging solution will facilitate transactions and data transfer between Ronin and Ethereum.

Ronin’s X account mentioned, “Today, Ronin Validators voted for @chainlink’s CCIP to secure the Ronin Bridge,” adding, “This alliance will reinforce security, improve user experience, and free up resources to accelerate the Ronin ecosystem’s adoption.”

The CCIP brings Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network to process inbound and outbound data transfers as users transact assets between the different chains. Chainlink, a well-known name in the blockchain ecosystem, has processed over $15 trillion worth of transactions across at least 19 blockchains. At its peak, the oracle network secured $75 billion in total value locked (TVL) related to DeFi protocols.

“Secure interoperability powered by CCIP will empower the Ronin community to take full advantage of the multi-chain landscape and accelerate the adoption of Web3 gaming,” said Thodoris Karakostas, Chainlink’s head of blockchain partnerships. Sky Mavis’ head researcher, Phuc Thai, mentioned, “Out of all the solutions available on market, adopting Chainlink CCIP as Ronin’s canonical cross-chain infrastructure was an obvious choice, given the protocol’s unparalleled security features and reliability track record.”

As the integration progresses, Ronin’s users will not feel anything as it occurs in the background. In fact, they do not have to subject their assets to a migration process, like upgrades of this nature usually entail. Ronin and Chainlink aim to make the process as seamless as possible. The CCIP protocol’s integration will occur without too much disturbance to the user experience.

“For the migration plan, Ronin and Chainlink are committed to minimizing impact to users. This means that all existing tokens on Ronin will not need to undergo a user-triggered migration process, and no action is required from any token holders,” Ronin said.

Ronin Is Taking Steps to Safeguard Itself From Exploits

Ronin is often associated with one of the biggest hacks in the ecosystem. Bad actors exploited the gaming network to walk away with more than $600 million in 2022. The network has since made efforts to increase its security and prevent such incidents from occurring. One of those steps is partnering with Chainlink.
