Tom Brady Pays Fan an Entire Bitcoin to Get a Special Ball Back

Football legend and team member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady has paid a fan an entire bitcoin to get a special football back.

Tom Brady Parts with BTC, Gets a Football

In a recent interview, Brady recounts throwing his 600th touchdown ball to wide receiver Mike Evans. No player has ever achieved such a touchdown milestone, and this made the ball one of the most special items in the history of the sport. Unfortunately, Evans did not realize the significance of the ball and handed it to a fan named Byron Kennedy in the audience.

Realizing how important the ball was, several team representatives began negotiating with the fan to get it back. Overall, Kennedy received as much as $100,000 in gifts – including an entire bitcoin from Brady himself – to hand the ball back, though many analysts estimate the ball itself may have been worth as much as $500,000, and Brady admits Kennedy may have received the short end of the stick.

He commented:

There were a lot of negotiations to get the ball back. Byron realized he lost all his leverage when he gave the ball away. He should have held it so he would have had as much leverage as possible.

Peyton Manning – another legendary player – also threw his two cents into the mix, claiming:

If he had held it, he would have been sitting in the Tom Brady suite for the rest of the season. Amateur move on his part.

All joking aside, however, Brady believes that Kennedy came out on top in a way, and that the negotiations worked out well for both sides. He stated:

I think it worked out. I am also giving him a bitcoin. That’s cool, too. At the end of the day, I think he’s still making out pretty well.

Kennedy is making one more demand in exchange for the ball… He wants to play a round of golf with Brady himself. It is unclear at the time of writing if the football player has taken up the offer.

Brady has become one of the most active bitcoin and crypto promoters of the sports world in recent months. Not long ago, he joined hands with crypto exchange FTX and agreed to serve as one of the company’s celebrity ambassadors.

What Got Him Into BTC Anyway?

He recently commented that the main reason he got involved with the crypto asset was because it was a serious topic of discussion amongst his coaches and teammates. He states:

One of my quarterback coaches has been on it for eight or nine months, so we talk about it basically every day. The prices of the different tokens, how the space is doing, so it is something that is on all our minds. We are very interested. We are learning more and more about these emerging markets. I am a big believer in it.
