Phunware, Inc. – an enterprise cloud platform and services firm for global brands – is bringing Matt Lull onboard as its new executive vice president and chief cryptocurrency officer. Lull brings 30 years of financial experience to the role, and his position took effect on April 18 of this year.

Phunware Is Growing Its Crypto Abilities

The addition of the role suggests digital currencies are now crossing deeply into mainstream territory, and we can likely expect to see other companies in the coming years and months add related crypto positions to their own operations, giving the space even more opportunities to gain traction and legitimacy. Alan S. Knitowski – president, CEO, and co-founder of Phunware – explained in an interview:

We are extremely excited to continue expanding our core executive team, this time adding one of the world’s first public company chief cryptocurrency officer positions in the world. Matt is an exceptional find for our business and has an extremely rare combination of skill sets and experience which intersect perfectly with our core strategic focus on the intersection of mobile, cloud, big data, and blockchain worldwide.

Prior to his work with the company, Lull worked for 18 years with a firm called Citrix Systems where he served as its managing director of technology strategy for cloud innovation partners. While there, he established a cloud computing atmosphere for the company and was responsible for managing a wide array of additional digital environments.

Before working with Citrix, however, Lull was a consultant for Fortune 500 companies across the globe through a firm known as Accenture. He worked to establish many enterprise-grade and full-service projects on mainframes and web platforms.

In a statement, Lull expressed his enthusiasm for Phunware and all the great things they can potentially accomplish together. He commented:

Phunware’s history as an enterprise-grade mobile application platform, coupled with its stature as a compliant, doxed, transparent, and fully regulated and audited public company, uniquely positions it within the worldwide crypto community to capitalize on the intersection between consumer identity, global brands, community development, and trust. The decentralized web is currently positioned to be the next major wave of computing, and we at Phunware plan to be at the tip of the proverbial spear in helping sovereign people worldwide reap its core utility, benefits, and freedom at scale.

What Will He Do in the Role?

Graduating magna cum laude from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Lull will spend his days at Phunware working to ensure the company’s strategic and tactical initiatives take precedence and operate clearly and cleanly. These initiatives will center around software, hardware, decentralized finance (defi), and cloud-based technologies.

Phunware currently has several digital currencies on its balance sheet including bitcoin and Ethereum. The company has also launched its own crypto – Phun Token – along with a corresponding wallet system.
