Coinbase Pro is coming back by year-end, and Coinbase says its Deribit integration is done, with options, spot margin, and unified portfolios due within weeks.

A waitlist link went up on Coinbase’s X account at 02:59 UTC on Wednesday, October 7. The post opened with five words: Coinbase Pro is coming back.

About 70 minutes later, a longer thread arrived, and a blog post from Coinbase filled in the rest on Coinbase Pro and plenty else. The company says its Deribit integration is complete, and it calls the result the Coinbase Global Exchange.

A Year-End Date For Coinbase Pro

Coinbase’s blog post puts the relaunch at the end of this year. Coinbase Pro would be the professional platform for spot, futures, perpetuals, options, and equities, rebuilt from the ground up with faster order routing and tools aimed at high-volume traders. Equities on a crypto trading terminal is the part to watch, since Ondo Finance launched tokenized pre-IPO notes this week.

Details on Coinbase Pro are thin. More are coming soon, the company says, and the waitlist is the only way in for now.

Deribit Moves Inside The Exchange

Deribit brings the weight. Bitcoin options open interest topped $30 billion as of September 30, per Coinbase, and volume passed $1 trillion last year. Deribit’s own X account had told users on September 30 that Coinbase International Exchange would consolidate into Deribit the next day.

Bitcoin itself has been stuck between roughly $83,000 and $86,700, based on LBN’s latest price outlook, and it traded near $84,000 on Wednesday.

Pro will need this plumbing, and most of it is still ahead. Coinbase Financial Markets will soon connect US and global derivatives into one regulated liquidity pool, according to the post. Options through Coinbase Prime arrive in the coming weeks, and onboarding is open today. Eligible traders outside the US get options on a similar timetable, while US retail options wait until later this year.

CFTC guidance from May 2026 gets the credit for the US side. By Coinbase’s account, it lets Coinbase Financial Markets act as the first and only US-regulated futures commission merchant that can connect American clients to global crypto derivatives.

Spot Margin Arrives Too

Spot margin is the piece retail traders will see first. Borrowing runs to 10x on selected major assets and 5x on others, collateral can sit in more than 15 assets, and the loans share one margin portfolio with derivatives. Fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced now start at $10,000 in qualifying volume, counting spot and derivatives together.

In the US, spot margin is limited to eligible contract participants, per Coinbase’s own disclosure. That notice also warns that collateral can be liquidated without notice and that borrowers can lose more than their deposit.

Two days earlier, on Monday, October 5, the CFTC published an advance notice of proposed rulemaking on retail commodity transactions involving crypto assets, including a new exchange registration subcategory built for them. Comments are due within 60 days of its Federal Register publication.
