Shaktikanta Das

Shaktikanta Das is a distinguished Indian economist and civil servant, widely recognized for his contributions to the field of financial and economic policy. Born on February 26, 1957, he holds a Master’s degree in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.

Das has held several influential positions in the Indian government, showcasing his expertise and leadership in the economic sphere. In December 2018, he was appointed as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s central banking institution, where he played a crucial role in shaping the country’s monetary policy and managing its financial stability.

Prior to his appointment as Governor, Das held key positions in various government departments. Notably, he served as the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs and played a significant role in formulating and implementing policies related to fiscal consolidation, infrastructure financing, and economic reforms.
