Industry and Adoption Institutions Refused to Sell Crypto During 50% Crash, Bitwise Report Finds

Strategy bought 1,665 BTC for $142.7M, bringing total holdings to 847,666 BTC at a $63.95B acquisition cost.
Treasury company Strategy added 1,665 bitcoin to its treasury while continuing a major capital management program around its preferred shares. The company spent $142.7 million on the latest BTC purchase and repurchased $151.7 million of STRC stock. Following the latest purchase, Strategy’s bitcoin holdings reached 847,666 BTC, acquired for a combined $63.95 billion.
Between September 21 and September 27, Strategy purchased 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million, including fees and expenses. According to its September 28 Form 8-K filing, the latest acquisition carried an average purchase price of $85,681 per bitcoin.

The funding came directly from proceeds raised through the company’s MSTR at-the-market offering program. During the same period, the company sold 1,469,165 MSTR shares and generated $246.2 million in net proceeds after sales commissions.
From those proceeds, Strategy directed $142.7 million toward bitcoin purchases, while another $103.5 million went toward STRC share repurchases. Furthermore, the firm held 847,666 BTC as of September 27, acquired for an aggregate of $63.95 billion.
With fees and expenses included, its average purchase price across the entire bitcoin position now stands at $75,437 per BTC.
Meanwhile, Strategy still has significant capacity to issue additional common stock under its ATM program. As of September 27, approximately $18.84 billion of MSTR shares remained available for issuance and sale.
Alongside its latest bitcoin acquisition, Strategy continued buying back its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock. During the week, the company repurchased 1,534,530 STRC shares for an aggregate purchase price of $151.7 million.
MSTR stock sales funded $103.5 million of that amount, while Strategy covered the remaining $48.1 million using USD Cash. No shares of STRF, STRK, STRD or MSTR were repurchased during the reporting period.
Following the STRC transaction, $723.5 million remained available under Strategy’s digital credit securities repurchase program. Separately, the company retains $1 billion in authorized capacity under its MSTR stock repurchase program.
Strategy also reported updated figures for its USD Reserve and USD Cash, two pools serving different roles within its capital framework. As of September 27, the USD Reserve held $5.02 billion and is primarily intended to cover preferred-stock dividends and interest on outstanding debt.
According to the disclosure, the firm also held $1 billion in USD Cash, which management can direct toward bitcoin purchases, reserve funding and other corporate purposes. During the reporting period, Strategy used $22.1 million from its USD Reserve to pay preferred-stock dividends.
