Visa reportedly nears a $2.5 billion Fireblocks acquisition, expanding its crypto custody services and stablecoin payment infrastructure worldwide.

Visa is reportedly in the final stages of talks to acquire cryptocurrency infrastructure firm Fireblocks for around $2.5 billion. The agreement may enhance Visa’s capabilities in digital asset custody and blockchain payments.

Axios reported the negotiations on October 22, 2026, citing people familiar with the discussions. But no agreement has been officially confirmed by either company, and the terms may still be subject to change.

Fireblocks offers technology to securely store, transfer, and manage digital assets for businesses. As such, the deal would provide Visa with more access to tools to facilitate crypto payments.

Visa Targets Fireblocks to Expand Its Crypto Services

Fireblocks was established in 2017 and is dedicated to digital asset security and financial infrastructure. It is a technology that assists banks, payment companies, and other businesses in managing cryptocurrency transactions. However, the companies have yet to reach a final deal and have not yet revealed the terms of the transaction.

The proposed valuation of $2.5 billion is much lower than Fireblocks’ valuation of $8 billion in January 2022. The company had previously valued itself at that amount in a Series E round of financing.

Fireblocks is a technology for the storage and transfer of digital assets that is offered to institutional customers. Its services might enable Visa to create more robust connections between conventional payments and the blockchain networks.

Furthermore, Visa has continued to grow its services related to cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. The company recently tied up with crypto financial infrastructure firm Mesh to increase stablecoin payment capabilities.

Stablecoins are digital currencies that are designed to have a stable value, typically by pegging to a traditional currency, such as the US dollar. They can facilitate the transfer of funds through blockchain networks.

Fireblocks Deal Could Strengthen Visa’s Blockchain Payment Network

The deal, if it goes through, would allow Visa to diversify its card payment business. Instead, the company could gain more technology for handling digital assets and blockchain-based transfers.

Fireblocks provides tools that enable businesses to secure digital assets and control transactions. These services could be useful for financial institutions wishing to provide crypto-related products without developing all of the systems.

Moreover, Fireblocks has built infrastructure for stablecoin payments. The technology could be used in other ways to help Visa integrate traditional financial services with blockchain-based payment systems.

The deal would also fit Visa’s broader push into stablecoin services. The company has launched a stablecoin management platform in July to enable traditional banks to issue, trade and settle stablecoins.

The purchase, however, wouldn’t be a purchase of a cryptocurrency exchange by Visa. The primary business of Fireblocks is to offer technology and infrastructure to those businesses handling digital assets.

The proposed deal is also a response to the evolving conditions of the cryptocurrency market. Businesses are now more concerned with financial infrastructure, which is used for secure transactions and digital asset services.

Overall, a completed deal could strengthen Visa’s role in digital asset custody and stablecoin payments. Until Visa or Fireblocks make an official announcement, investors and customers will have to wait.
