Are you an avid gamer? Do you really pay for all the games you play or sometimes indulge yourself with pirated versions? If the answer is No for the first question, don’t even bother answering the second one. But if you are a gamer and you have the habit of using pirated game versions, then beware! For starters, using pirated software is illegal, it applies to games as well. On the other hand, these pirated games you have installed on your computer may have some serious malware which may end up stealing from you.

One of the gamers has learnt it the hard way. A gamer who goes by the screen name ‘Arkanoah’ on reddit seems to have lost 4.88 bitcoins stored in a bitcoin wallet on his computer. What did he do wrong? He downloaded and installed a pirated version of Fallout 4 video game.

Arkanoah, upon discovering the loss of bitcoins had posted the information on reddit along with his system specifications and blockchain transaction details for his wallet. According to Arkanoah, he clearly did not spend/transfer the bitcoin to elsewhere, but when he checked his wallet, he found it almost empty, except for $20-dollar worth of BTC which the thief had allegedly left behind.

The reddit community members pitched in, asking him few questions to determine what could possibly have happened to those bitcoins. In the end, they concluded that the pirated version of Fallout 4 might have been responsible for the theft. According to the blockchain transaction data, the bitcoin transfer of 4.88 bitcoins were made on November 11th, which also happens to be the day Fallout 4 was released.

The bitcoin community now believes that the version of Fallout 4 game Arkanoah downloaded might have contained some kind of malware or a virus which could have cracked his bitcoin password and executed a transaction without the user’s knowledge. the virus seems to be smartly designed by whoever developed it
