Riccardo “Fluffypony” Spagni, known for his work on the privacy-focused blockchain Monero, has reportedly launched a new mining application called Tari Universe. This application will simplify the process of mining cryptocurrencies for a larger audience by incorporating an intuitive interface. Spagni’s intention is to ‘popularize’ token mining, as this platform allows users to mine coins using their personal computers due to this ASIC-resistant hashing algorithm.
Tari Universe App Promises Simplified Crypto Mining Experience
After the app’s launch, Spagni continued to insist on making mining easier. He once said that he wanted to build a site where the complexity is buried and hidden behind the idea of assisting people. Users can register to be added to the app’s waitlist and improve their status through the referral of friends.
However, Spagni is currently in a lot of legal trouble. He was arrested for fraud and forgery while he was working for Cape Cookies, a company based in South Africa. It emerged that Spagni allegedly embezzled about $83,400 from the company during the years 2009, 2010, and 2011. Most importantly, local South African authorities did not act on the warrant issued to arrest him until August 2021, when they sought the help of the U.S. authorities to arrest him.
Still, the charges have never been proven against Spagni, and after his arrest and extradition to South Africa, he continues to fight the arrest warrant. However, challenges have been encountered in the legal process, and the South African Supreme Court has not resolved the matter to this date.
Now, as Spagni progresses through Tari Universe and sets his sights on launching the potentially life-changing app, the legal issues continue to loom. The impact of legal issues that Tari Universe seeks to transform might overshadow his vision of changing people’s approach to cryptocurrency mining. This state of affairs underlines the challenges and volatility associated with emerging technologies such as cryptocurrencies.
