Coinbase Bitcoin Discount Hits Widest Gap of 2026
The Coinbase Bitcoin discount versus Binance hit its widest point of 2026. A November 1 market read set the mark. It compared Coinbase's BTC-USD price with Binance's BTC-USDT print, and adjusted Tether to the dollar. The gap opened while Binance held withdrawals after its October 29 hot-wallet breach. That is the stake for Bitcoin news readers. Soft US spot demand or a blocked trade path could both explain the print.
Coinbase Bitcoin Discount Reaches a 2026 Extreme
USDT-adjusted Coinbase-Binance spread data put the gap at its widest mark of the year. That claim comes from a November 1 market note. A negative spread means Bitcoin is cheaper on Coinbase than on Binance after USDT's dollar value is counted. The note did not give an exact percent for the record print.
CryptoQuant also logged a Coinbase Premium Index of -0.27% on October 29. That was its lowest reading since November 2022. The index also compares Coinbase BTC/USD with Binance BTC/USDT. It is a related gauge. It is not the same as the USDT-adjusted spread that set the 2026 extreme.
Binance Withdrawal Freeze Restricted Arbitrage
Binance paused withdrawals after unauthorized hot-wallet transfers on October 29. Recovery updates put the hit near $6.3 billion. The firm said it found no sign of a wallet private-key leak. It pledged to cover losses through SAFU and company funds. That freeze sits inside the wider Binance breach story.
Withdrawals stayed paused while Binance probed the case, locked down hit systems, and finished security checks. Deposits and other live services stayed up. The rule limited exits off Binance. It did not shut trading or deposits.
That cut off the usual arb route. Traders buy Bitcoin where it is cheaper, move it, and sell where it is richer. With withdrawals closed, that path stalls. Price gaps can linger. The wide Coinbase discount therefore became a weaker read on US spot demand while exits stayed frozen.
Binance Resumes Phase-One BTC Withdrawals
Binance said on November 1 that phase-one withdrawals would reopen between 06:00 and 09:00 UTC. That came in its status update. Bitcoin was in the first wave. So were tokens on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, XRP, and other networks. Services return in stages after security and readiness checks.
Binance warned of short delays in the early rollout. More assets would follow after further checks. It also said cover stood near 95% of the estimated hit. Later the same day, Bitcoin, Ether, and some stablecoin exits were live again. That matched the USDT and USDC reopen path.
Traders Watch Whether the Spread Narrows
Reopened exits can let arb desks move BTC between Coinbase and Binance again. Buying the cheaper Coinbase print and selling on Binance can push Coinbase lower and Binance higher. That flow may narrow the spread.
The reopen does not promise a fast fix. Delays, fees, thin books, and leftover network limits can slow arb. The next clean signal is whether the USDT-adjusted Coinbase Bitcoin discount tightens as Binance withdrawal traffic returns to normal.
