MoonPay Expands US Crypto Access With Discover Network

  • MoonPay adds Discover, expanding U.S. crypto payments beyond Visa and Mastercard.
  • Eligible Discover cardholders can buy and sell thousands of supported cryptocurrencies.
  • Issuing banks still decide whether Discover cards can complete crypto transactions.

MoonPay has expanded its cryptocurrency payment options by adding Discover Network support for users across the United States. The integration allows eligible Discover cardholders to buy and sell thousands of supported digital assets, making Discover the third major U.S. card network available on the platform after Visa and Mastercard.

Discover Strengthens MoonPay’s Crypto Payment Network

MoonPay has added Discover Network to its growing list of payment methods, broadening access to cryptocurrency purchases for U.S. customers. Eligible cardholders can now use Discover cards to buy and sell digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, XRP, Solana, TRON, Hyperliquid, and Zcash.

The integration places Discover alongside Visa and Mastercard as supported card networks on the platform.

MoonPay also offers Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfers, and several regional payment methods, providing users with multiple ways to fund cryptocurrency transactions.

However, card availability still depends on individual issuing banks. While MoonPay supports the Discover payment rail, banks retain authority over whether their customers can complete cryptocurrency purchases using specific cards.

Richard Harrison, MoonPay’s Vice President of Banking and Payments Partnerships, said expanding payment options removes barriers that prevent users from completing transactions. He added that the company’s goal remains enabling customers to purchase digital assets using familiar payment methods.

The latest addition also gives businesses integrating MoonPay’s payment infrastructure immediate access to Discover Network support without requiring additional technical development.

Partnership Expands Traditional Payment Access to Digital Assets

Discover has maintained a smaller presence in cryptocurrency compared with Visa and Mastercard, which have established partnerships across exchanges, payment firms, and stablecoin projects. Consequently, the MoonPay partnership represents a notable expansion of Discover’s participation in digital asset payments.

Despite the broader support, transaction approval remains subject to issuer policies, fraud controls, compliance standards, and internal risk assessments. Therefore, approval outcomes may differ between Discover cardholders depending on their financial institution.

Founded in 2019, MoonPay has grown into one of the cryptocurrency industry’s largest payment infrastructure providers. The company says it serves more than 30 million customers across 180 countries while supporting over 500 enterprise clients spanning exchanges, wallets, fintech platforms, and blockchain applications.

Beyond payment processing, MoonPay has expanded its services through AI-powered blockchain infrastructure.

Earlier this year, the company introduced MoonPay Agents, enabling autonomous AI agents to create self-custodial wallets and execute blockchain transactions.

The Discover integration follows MoonPay’s broader strategy of simplifying access between traditional finance and digital assets. Although the addition does not guarantee every transaction receives approval, it provides millions of eligible Discover cardholders with another regulated pathway into the cryptocurrency market.
